Today, just like any other day, I had to explain to a patient that when you are 30 minutes late for your appointment that we have to reschedule. However unlike other days this patient behaved like satan re-incarnated inside her.
Me: “Ma’am we will need to get you rescheduled because your appointment was 30 minutes ago.”
Patient: “The F you will, I am in pain. You just don’t want to see me because I’m Black and lesbian.”
What the Bleep! How does your late compute to I’m racist? We live in such a toxic world of placing blame on anyone but yourself that a lesbian with mixed race children gets called racist and a gay hater for asking to reschedule a patient.
I know good and well some things are about race or LGBTQ rights but not everything. Next time you are somewhere and what they say upsets you take it for face value don’t apply anything to it. I will bet you come away from that conflict quicker and happier when doing this.
